A unique background working with sea life and a passion for clay has led to some unusual insights into the intersection of form and function that I am happy to share. Many forms in nature may not seem to lend themselves to representation in clay but can be achieved by embracing new materials and connection techniques. Want to build larger than the kiln? Crustaceans build bigger with segmented forms. Want to build tall and thin? Take a deep dive into the natural armatures of corals, which withstand ferocious ocean currents with grace.
